Cairo clashes at St Mark's Coptic Cathedral after funerals

One person has been killed in clashes outside Cairo's main cathedral following the funerals of four Coptic Christians killed in religious violence on Thursday.
Mourners leaving St Mark's Cathedral clashed with local residents.
Police fired tear gas to break up the violence. More than 80 people were injured, the state news agency said.
The health ministry said one Christian man was killed. The ambulance service said he was struck with birdshot.

WCC launches global theological education directory

The World Council of Churches has launched a global online directory of more than 7000 theological education institutions to promote mutual sharing and dialogue between establishments in different parts of the world, a WCC statement says.
The Global Directory of Theological Education Institutions is one of the results of the Global Survey on Theological Education, launched in October 2011. This was the first major world survey on the trends, needs and challenges in theological education and ministerial formation since the 1910 World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh.

Nigerian prelate condemns attacks on Christian villages; thousands displaced

Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Jos, president of the Nigerian bishops’ conference, has condemned attacks on three central Nigerian villages by predominantly Muslim Fulani farmers. The attacks, which were directed against a predominantly Christian area and took place on Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, left at least 19 dead and led 4,500 to flee their homes.

Head of Coptic Orthodox Church to visit Pope Francis

Pope Tawadros (Theodoros) II of Alexandria, who was elected head of the Coptic Orthodox Church in November, has announced that he will soon visit Pope Francis in Rome. The announcement followed an April 3 meeting with Archbishop Jean-Paul Gobel, who was appointed apostolic nuncio to Egypt in January.
